Purpose of the Project

• Previous comparative research has focused on national differences in average levels of educational attainment.

• The focus of this project is on educational inequality, that is, on variation around the average.

• Its aim is to understand why some individuals have lower educational attainments, why educational inequalities are greater in some European countries than in others and to explore the policy implications.

• The emergence of systematic cross-national data sets permit much more rigorous cross-national research and provide the main basis for the project.
